Updates to my ODP duties:

I decided that it would be easier to just simply add my editing updates to my blog rather than trying to maintain a web page of updates. So below you will find an archive of the older updates to my editing career and duties. All new updates, including my promotion to Meta have been included on my new and improved editor blog. Please check there for futher updates and other bits of important and useless information.

Thanks.

December 2004

Well I lost another mentor and friend to a break from the stresses of editing. My Regional guide decided it was time to pursue other interests. Hopefully a short lived break, but I still wish him the best. I am currently working my way up through the State of Indiana hoping to eventually work in all areas. For now, I have been granted permissions to work in the Indiana Localities: M. It is my desire that after cleaning up this area, I can move on to other areas in the state for which I think are in need of work.

January 2005

Well a massive reorganization of Society/Genealogy is underway. One of the by products is that Personal Pages no longer exists as it has been combined within Surnames. The good news is that I now have access to Surnames since my permissions were transferred over. I look forwarded to digging in there and starting back to my work. Prior to the move, I had recently waded through the entire category removing the errors and expired sites. This means with the exception of a few existing errors already in Surnames it will start pretty fresh.

February 2005

I recently moved up the category tree from Indiana: Localities: B: Bloomington to working on the entire Alpha-Bar of Indiana: Localities: B.  Adding that to my Counties: Monroe and Indiana: Localities: M and I am well on my way to working freely through out the State of Indiana which is what I eventually would like to do.

April 2005

Ok, it has been a while since I sat down and updated my ODP work.  I have moved up to editing all of the Indiana: Localities.  I am also proud to be a part of Team Arizona working side by side with great editors like dogbows, spectregunner and bobrat.  I have the greatest respect for all three of these editors and am proud to have been invited to help out.  I am currently tag teaming with dogbows in Arizona: Localities.  Together along with all the other great editors on Team Arizona we are slowly getting things in order.

June 2005

Well things are progressing nicely.  Team Arizona still rocks!  AZ is really looking good, and I couldn't be prouder being part of that team.  Since my last update a lot has changed.  I quickly moved on up to state level for Indiana and started my own pet project of cleaning up as much of Indiana's categories.  The Indiana project is coming along well, finally got greens down below 400.  There are some good editors in specific localities that are kicking green but too.  Hopefully I can get them to move up and take on more categories.  Then Indiana will be awesome!

Recently, I resigned from being named at the County and Locality since I have permissions higher up at the state level.  Hopefully that will drive some of the locality editors to want to move on up.  In my ever driving quest to help where needed, I applied for and was granted state level editor permissions in Mississippi.  I have no connection with Mississippi personally, other than seeing it needs some major work and a willingness to help out.  Hopefully at my next update, I can say Team Mississippi rocks!

December 2005

Well quite some time has past since I last sat down to add useful content to my ODP journal.  A lot has happened in the last few months, and many great things look on the rise for 2006!  Where to begin?  After working in three states, I was granted permissions for all of the United States which gives me the ability to work in any state that I think needs some extra help.  Someone finally noticed the excellent work and leadership that spectregunner offers the directory and he was also granted permissions at the US level.  So we are both actively working in different areas to help clean up and build out the US categories.  I have also added numerous other categories to my portfolio:

  1. Regional-Greenland-Where I have been reunited with dogbows and we are trying to add some quality sites there as well as cleaning up where needed.

  2. Shopping-Firearms, Recreation-Guns, and Business-Guns : I am a hunter, recreational shooter, collector and proud Concealed Weapon permit holder.  I have added these 3 related categories to my editing categories to help expand the branches that I have experience in and also to assist in proper site placement in them.

  3. Business-Footwear : Another category I added to expand my branches, I have several years experience in the US footwear industry and thought I might be of benefit.

I have also agreed to work on an ODP Editor Project :  Standardized Category Charters which seeks to improve the way we handle category charters throughout the directory.  The semi-annual Mozzie awards also have take place for the Fall 2005 season.  I am proud to have been nominated (or to have participated in a cooperative effort that was nominated) for 4 awards in total. Those awards can be found on my Awards Page.

December 2005 (Christmas 2005)

Well quite a lot has happened since earlier this month  when I last updated!  dogbows has resigned for personal reason :( I completly understand her reasons and support her in her decision.  Hopefully she will come back soon.  spectregunner was finally give United States  level permissions, which are well deserved and long overdue in my opinion.  And the most shocking news thus far is that I have been granted CatEditall permissions for Regional!  Well, lots of new reading to do now so I am off to study what I need/can do.  Hope everyone has had a good holiday!  See you in 2006!

April 2006
Well it has been a while hasn't it.  A lot more has changed since my last update.  The biggest change has been the upgrading from CatEditall to Catmod in Regional.  With that comes a lot more responsibility, a lot of new stuff to learn,  and greater adventures.
Also it deserves mentioning that there are many projects currently on going that I am trying to help with that are going to keep me eternally busy, but I wouldn't have it any other way.  There are some really great editors I am getting to work with and it makes things that much better.  Hopefully everyone is safe and well! Until next time.

November 2006

Wow, its been several months since I last sat down to work on this site. You may notice some changes as I completely revamped the appearance. Hopefully it is appealing to everyone. Well we are in the midst of the longest outage at dmoz since I began editing and some have mentioned it maybe the longest period of time that dmoz.org has been down.  I won't even pretend to comprehend what the problem could be, but will say it has something to do with servers crashing and possibly squirrels hibernating. The system crashed on 10/20/2006 and has lasted nearly a month and counting. Hopefully things will be back up sooner than later. Until then I am enjoying my free time in ways other than the ODP.  Until next time, be safe.

More updates as they occur!

Thanks,

Shadow
